Today it seems that kids have no rules.  You hear in the news about how a 15 year old had a gun in school.  There are a lot of factors that play into all of this, but I think a BIG part of the equation has to do with parent involvement.  When a child doesn’t excel, the child should not be the one to blame.  It’s the parents, or guardian, that should take the heat.

A lot of kids don’t have that same respect that I did for parents when I was a child.  Kids are growing up way too fast.  And I don’t fully blame the kids.  Once again, it’s the PARENTS that aren’t doing a good job!  Seriously!   When you continue to see kids getting younger and younger and getting into crime, it’s the parents that are the reasons for this!  It’s almost like parents are so focused on themselves that they forget they have to nurture and be an example for their seed.  You can’t be pissed off at your child for doing something wrong if they don’t have a REAL mother or father figure that is leading them by example.

Another issue is the media.   Kids are being raised more than ever with television and the internet.  With all of the advances in technology, and how ANYTHING can be googled when it comes to knowledge and information, there is absolutely no focus on this for kids.  It’s all about the latest gossip, or the shock and awe fighting and negativity on television every day.  Entertainment is one thing, but when it’s all that the kids are being fed, without much parent intervention, kids will OF COURSE be detoured.

So parents, it is YOUR responsibility to take care of your children.  And I don’t mean just by putting a roof over their head.  But also by feeding their mind, body, and soul with jewels that they can’t get anywhere else.  If all the brain food they are getting is what they see on TV or online, that’s a recipe for your child to be a statistic.  There are NO rules out in TV Land or the cyber world, so it’s up to YOU to set rules which will benefit your child.
