I posted a lot of information about McDonald’s on Twitter one random day. During the process, it opened up a lot of eyes. I probably had the most re-tweets ever (well, maybe 2nd to my tweet about Bill Cosby throwing Jell-O Pudding Pops at his TV while watching the BET Hip Hop Awards! lol).
I find it hard to believe that anyone would think that traditional fast food is actually healthy or good for you. I hear people say all the time “hey, you only live once and we all gotta die someday”. Is that the excuse we should use to become a statistic to unhealthy food, which can lead to obesity, depression, and a slew of diseases??? Is it ok to simply live on this world…and be OK with killing yourself with the foods you consume? I just don’t believe we are here simply to binge on life’s vices and die quickly. I also don’t believe we are perfect or can live to be 1000 years old. Everyone should at least be given an opportunity to do great things. But I believe society’s ills can easily deter us…and fast food is a multi-billion dollar industry that doesn’t give a damn about your hopes, dreams, health, or aspirations. It’s all about that dollar bill…period.
Obesity rates have skyrocketed within the last 30 years, which is the same time in which the fast food industry has grown at such a rapid pace. Since 1980, childhood fast food intake has increased over 500%, which led to a childhood obesity increase of 219%! I remember reading a stat earlier this year about how over 40% of North Carolina’s adults are obese. I’m still shocked how we, in the U.S., see the problem every single day…see our loved ones dying or slowly dying…but we all don’t think it’s an epidemic to speak up about it.
Fast Food companies could care less about you, and especially your children. When you have kids meals with greasy burgers and fries, is it ok to give to your children just because there’s a Disney toy inside the box? And there have been plenty of instances where even the TOYS are dangerous (containing mercury or lead poisoning, for example). Just because there is a toy hamburger smiling at you doesn’t make things ok! That’s a marketing ploy, which is a whole ‘NOTHER post! lol! But seriously, we need to break these dangerous habits, which trickle down to our kids and their kids. Companies are making billions off our ignorance, all while destroying our health…physically, mentally, and emotionally.
If you must eat fast food, it’s all about moderation! There’s nothing wrong with fast food on occasion. There is a reason why we have an immune system, which helps heal our bodies to maintain our health. But when you see the fast food commercials every hour of every day on TV, with people singing or rapping about how juicy that burger is, just to appeal to your senses, that’s the real issue. There are messages that we are hit with every day that convince us to constantly return to that fast food spot and keep on eating the worst “food” imaginable for human consumption. Your immune system can’t keep up with the constant, disease infested food being consumed over and over and over. So eventually, your immune system is the victim, and ultimately, disease creeps into your body very quickly.
So if you’re looking to eat better or live a healthier lifestyle, I suggest to start with what you’re currently consuming. Work on decreasing the amount of the “bad” foods you’re consuming. Don’t be afraid to research what’s good and bad for your body. Just think about how the word cancer is a normal word to hear nowadays, but was virtually non-existent several decades ago. Are you ok with being looked at as a disposable “customer” that is getting milked day after day for their money, to make someone else rich?
People always talk about how eating healthy is “expensive”. But think about it…It’s not that eating healthier is expensive. It’s the foods we are eating are so CHEAP! Cheap items deliver cheap results. So if you think that $1 burger is going to support your weight and health in a good way, think again. We have to break the cycle of looking at “cheap” food as the norm or the benchmark when it comes to eating. Switch that way of thinking around so that healthy foods are now the benchmark, and the “cheap” stuff is put in its rightful place. Health is Wealth!!!
